According to TSG 21-2016 4.1.5.2, the manufacturers of pressure-bearing components that are supplied separately from the pressure vessel, such as cylinder sections, end caps, forgings, etc., as well as those of pressure-bearing parts such as heat exchange tube bundles and manway components, must provide the ordering party with documentation proving the quality of their products. Question: 1. What does the quality certification document for a head manufactured separately include? 2. Do head manufacturers need to engage professional testing institutions (such as boiler inspection agencies) for supervision and inspection?
Supervision and inspection are required. The quality certification documents for manholes include: the product qualification certificate for the manhole, a report on the visual quality and geometric dimensions of the manhole, quality certification documents and performance retesting reports for the base material, a report on the heat treatment process applied to the manhole, and non-destructive testing reports for the welds (for large-sized welded manholes). This list is not exhaustive; please feel free to add more details if you know any.
Seamless heads should not require supervision during inspection.
All pressurized heads must be under supervision! The head manufacturer has its own qualified inspectors
Is it necessary to engage an external professional agency to conduct the inspection and issue a certificate?
What about end caps with seams? Is it necessary to have supervision and inspection by a boiler inspection agency?
Waiting for the experts to reply, learning*.
It’s the standard you’re looking at: TSG21. Read carefully the content regarding manufacturing. The manufacturing of pressure-bearing components for pressure vessels must undergo supervision and inspection. Which is the inspection agency? Ask the manufacturing unit; regulations vary from place to place.
