The user-specified temperature parameters are -45/+50; then, when using SW6 for calculations, which of these values should be entered as the design parameter for the main unit?
Use the + temperature to calculate the thickness; select the material based on the - temperature
It depends on what you are calculating. For the calculation of a fixed-tube-sheet heat exchanger, both parameters need to be entered; if it’s only the shell that is being calculated, -45 can be used – the allowable stress remains the same in either case.

For fixed-tube-sheet heat exchangers, what needs to be entered is the metal temperature of the tube side and shell side; when performing calculations, only the higher value of the design temperature needs to be entered, while the lower value is used during design to determine the appropriate material selection.
The allowable stress is determined at 50°C, and the material is selected at -45°C.
