In the design of the diameter-changing section, for example, when calculating the smaller end of a folded-cone shell under internal pressure according to 5.6.5.2, several concepts are involved: 1. The smaller-end transition section – what does this refer to? 2. What does the reinforced section of the conical shell connected to the transition section refer to? 3. What does \"minor end thickness\" refer to? 4. What is the relationship between the thickness of the short section, the thickness of the transition section, and the thickness of the reinforced section?

Since the stresses experienced by different parts of the conical shell under internal pressure vary, the thickness of each part must also be calculated separately. The standards specify that after calculating the thickness of each part, the thickest one can be used as the overall thickness of the component. 1. Small-end transition section – refers to the area where the end of the smaller cone section meets the folded edge ; 2. The reinforced section of the conical shell connected to the transition section refers to that portion whose length is set to be equal to the thickness of the transition section, when the thickness of the conical shell calculated according to equations 5–8 in 5.6.3 is smaller than the thickness of the transition section; this portion is known as the reinforced section. ? 3. Minor end thickness refers to the end of the minor end of the conical section (excluding the transition section) ; 4. For the small end of a conical shell with flanges, the thickness of the small end outside the reinforced section is usually less than that of the transition section, while the thickness of the reinforced section must be the same as that of the transition section.
