The recent collapse of a sewage tank in Haining resulted in numerous casualties and property losses. I’m puzzled about how the accident happened. Is there anyone who can analyze this from a professional perspective? Below are some pictures collected from the internet.
Is the diameter 24 meters? What is the thickness at the bottom?
Measured on Google Maps; Baidu Maps shows a similar result. Compared to the tanks nearby, this one is the largest. Even if it’s not 24 meters, it should be at least 20 meters. Compared to the 6-story building next to it, the height of this tank is also quite significant.
The factors should include insufficient corrosion margin for the plate thickness and inadequate weight of the load-bearing plate
Visually, the height-to-diameter ratio appears to be too high; corrosion may lead to thinning and cracking of the bottom ring wall, or weld defects may cause tearing.
I’m not quite sure – are the devices in this industry all designed with such a high length-to-diameter ratio? If a liquid storage tank with such a high height-to-diameter ratio is to be built, what other issues might arise, in addition to ensuring that the wall thickness is appropriate and that the foundation bolts are designed according to the requirements of the tower structure?
Why are septic tanks designed as vertical storage tanks? And it’s this tall too? We have concrete tanks here; they’re not used for sewage. Please give us some advice!
