The designer’s concept isn’t quite correct. The selection of equipment materials is determined based on the design temperature, design pressure, and properties of the medium, rather than choosing a material first and then determining the design temperature. Styrene is characterized by its explosive nature and moderate hazard level; it causes little corrosion to carbon steel, allowing carbon steel such as Q235B to be used as the main material. Additionally, to ensure that the medium temperature remains within a specified range, the storage tank should also be equipped with cooling pipes (the design details to be determined by the process engineering team).

Regarding the design temperature, it is necessary to take into account environmental conditions and mechanical operating conditions, which involves some practical experience from on-site work. During a previous on-site visit to the company, the design temperature specified in the design report was much higher than the storage temperature; it was only after asking questions that I learned that an experienced expert was needed to determine the appropriate design temperature~
All I’ve seen are carbon steel ones, with cooling via spraying from the outside or internal coils. We are from Shandong. In summer, it’s 35 degrees outside; after the temperature drops, it’s 25 degrees inside the tank.
