I am developing a device for treating VOC gases, but I am facing issues with sealing. Since the operation takes place at 120°C, I have considered using fluororubber and inorganic silica gel as sealing materials. Fluororubber is quite hard, and under the current conditions it cannot achieve the degree of compression required for sealing. As for inorganic silica gel, I have not conducted any tests on it yet. I would appreciate advice from those with expertise: can inorganic silica gel withstand VOC gases? Are there any other rubber materials that can resist VOC gases at 120°C?

There are simply too many types of VOC gases, and the choice varies depending on the operating conditions; it is recommended that the original poster specify the industry or the main components of the VOCs. For example, whether it involves flammable, explosive, or corrosive substances. 120°C is actually not a high temperature; is it activated carbon?

Yes, it’s activated carbon. VOCs are mainly aromatic hydrocarbons, along with some other compounds such as aldehydes. The problem is that no suitable sealing material can be found – one that has low hardness, resistance to organic corrosion, and does not exhibit adsorption properties
