Why are surface non-destructive testing requirements generally not considered for the butt welds of carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel pipes?
In many cases, surface non-destructive testing is not performed on the butt welds of carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel pipes, mainly for the following reasons: 1. Process requirements: During welding, due to their inherent properties, carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel generally do not develop significant defects in their welds. For these types of materials, welding processes can usually ensure weld quality. Therefore, surface non-destructive testing of the weld may not be necessary. 2. Cost-benefit: Non-destructive testing requires additional human, material, and time resources, which increases production costs. If the welding process is proper and the quality of the weld can be ensured, there is no need for additional non-destructive testing, which helps to reduce production costs. 3. Product requirements: If the product requirements do not impose particularly high demands on the performance of the welds, or if the operating environment of the product does not require a particularly high level of weld quality, then surface non-destructive testing may not be necessary either. However, this does not mean that non-destructive testing of welds in carbon steel or austenitic stainless steel is not required in all cases.
