Prevention first, life above all. ----------------------------------------- Recently, the first batch of 1930mm ultra-wide-section hydrogen pipeline steel L245M, manufactured customarily by Tangsteel Company, was successfully produced and will be used in key hydrogen pipeline projects. This product will provide effective support for addressing the critical issue of hydrogen transportation within the hydrogen energy industry chain, and for further improving the domestic hydrogen transportation system. How to transport hydrogen efficiently and conveniently is a bottleneck restricting the development of the hydrogen industry. Pipeline transportation of pure hydrogen offers irreplaceable economic advantages for large-scale, long-distance delivery; it can resolve the challenges associated with large-scale hydrogen use at its root, and represents the future direction for the efficient use of hydrogen. Tangsteel is implementing the major strategic decisions regarding carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and in response to the requirements of the Provincial Three-Year Action Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry, it is actively engaged in the research and development of materials for hydrogen transport. It works closely with the specific needs of this project to carry out targeted research efforts. To meet customer needs, Tangsteel’s R&D team conducted comprehensive and thorough feasibility analyses, built simulated billets, and organized trial rolling. By optimizing the composition design and employing a dual-smelting process along with controlled rolling and cooling techniques, precise control over parameters such as strip dimensions, sheet shape, surface quality, and temperature was achieved. This approach addressed the issue of hydrogen embrittlement that occurs in steel when exposed to a hydrogen-rich environment, enabling the successful one-time rolling of ultra-wide-section hydrogen pipeline steel. It provides the necessary material foundation to ensure the safety of hydrogen transport via pipelines and to extend their service life.
