I would like to ask experts: for titanium heads made from TA1 titanium plates with a thickness of 2.0 mm, should cold pressing or hot pressing be used? What is the specific manufacturing process? It was produced using cold pressing directly, and many cracks appeared on the sides of the head. After testing, the titanium plate met the standard requirements in terms of material and properties. It should be made using cold pressing directly; otherwise, the material properties might change.
Why are there so many cracks when it’s made using cold pressing? There’s no issue with the titanium plate material either.
It is related to the ductility of metals. Find reasonable operating conditions.
Check the end cap standards; titanium needs to be heated to a certain temperature before being pressed, as it cannot be formed cold.
The gap in the molding tool is too small; the inner diameter of the outer tire, based on the inner diameter as a reference, should be larger. By how much? It depends on the diameter and thickness. Look up books on sheet metal stamping and forming for reference
It’s difficult to fabricate cold-pressed heads from titanium plates with a wall thickness of 2 mm; at least 3 mm is required. And it needs to be hot-pressed.
Titanium has a high strength-to-yield ratio, low cold-forming plasticity, and low elongation; cracks easily occur when it is subjected to significant cold deformation. Therefore, titanium end caps are all hot-formed.
If possible, use multiple stamping or spinning processes
