Dear sea friends: Hello everyone. There are shell-and-tube heat exchangers available, where water is used in both the tube side and the shell side for cooling purposes; in such exchangers, process water flows through the tube side while cooling water flows through the shell side. It is placed horizontally, with all interfaces featuring a low inlet and high outlet; currently, no baffle plates are installed in the shell side. By how much could the efficiency decrease? Additionally, the heat exchanger has been prepared; are there any simple ways to improve its performance? Thank you so much!
The design of a heat exchanger begins with process calculations, and the placement of baffle plates is determined as part of these calculations. The finished equipment lacks baffle plates – is it a design issue or a manufacturing error?
For design issues, seek a designer; for manufacturing mistakes, redo it.
The equipment is ready; there shouldn’t be any simple way to do it.
There are no good solutions left. It can only be disassembled and rebuilt.
Maybe it was an oversight during the design phase?
Without baffle plates, the heat exchange efficiency is likely to fall short of even 50%
