Why are single-pass heat exchangers commonly used in crystallization systems, rather than multi-pass heat exchangers? Isn’t it true that having more pipes can increase the flow velocity of the fluid inside them?
For the evaporation of ordinary crystalline salts, multi-effect forced-circulation single-tube evaporators are used, and I believe there are three reasons for this: 1. Using multiple tube passes makes it easy for material to get trapped in dead zones when it moves between the tubes； 2. The use of multiple tube passes increases the head requirement of the circulation pump, which is not favorable for power consumption. 3. The difficulty of mechanical processing increases!

When crystalline process materials flow through the tube side, if a multi-tube side configuration is used, the crystals tend to settle and accumulate in the end tube boxes. If the material does not tend to scale or does not require regular mechanical cleaning (such as with high-pressure water guns), a U-tube bundle with multiple tube passes can be chosen.
