Successful first start-up of the turbine in the refrigeration station of the Heart-to-Heart Industrial Upgrade Project Author/Source: Heart-to-Heart Chemical Industry Group Date: 2020-09-01 Clicks: 13 At 11:51 on August 31, 2020, the turbine of the ammonia compressor in the refrigeration station of the industrial upgrade project reached its rated speed; the system equipment operated smoothly, and the turbine was started up successfully on the first attempt. The turbine and ammonia compressor systems in the refrigeration station are responsible for providing cooling capacity for the low-temperature methanol washing process; their proper operation directly determines the timing of commissioning of the entire industrial upgrading project. To ensure that the turbine startup is carried out according to the schedule, the Industrial Upgrading Project Department, the startup team of the Fourth Branch of Xinxiang Ammonia Synthesis Division, and the installation unit worked together in coordination, making overall plans to facilitate the conditions required for turbine startup. Blowing operations were carried out on the steam pipeline from the sulfur recovery unit to the cooling station S40 starting from August 17. At the same time, the project team members completed the inspection of the turbine blades and the installation of instrument measurement points within 5 days, working in harsh conditions such as high temperatures. After the steam pipes were successfully purged on August 27, the project team worked overtime to carry out a series of on-site verification tasks prior to startup, including pipe restoration and stress-free inspection, gear rotation testing, static tests, vacuum tests, as well as pipe warming and thermal expansion checks for the turbine. Finally, at 23:10 on August 30, all conditions for startup were met. Subsequently, the project team developed a detailed commissioning plan in collaboration with the startup team, the installation unit, and the supervision unit, while ensuring that appropriate safety measures were in place at the site. At 10:00 on August 31, the turbine began to spin up, going through low-speed warm-up and high-speed warm-up phases successively, before reaching its rated speed smoothly. After nearly two hours of operation, the electronic trip and mechanical trip tests were finally completed. During this period, various parameters such as turbine shaft vibration, bearing vibration, and bearing temperature met the technical specification requirements, and the turbine started up successfully on the first attempt. The successful commissioning of the turbine at the freezing station has accelerated the startup of the low-temperature methanol washing unit, taking an important step toward the established goal of feeding materials into the chemical production facilities as part of the industrial upgrading project.
