Wang Jiangping, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that China’s nitrogen fertilizer industry has made significant contributions to ensuring the country’s food security. As China’s food industry undergoes transformation and adjustment, the nitrogen fertilizer industry also needs to transform itself. He suggested that the nitrogen fertilizer industry should, first, adhere to the new development concept and take meeting the needs of agricultural development as its starting point; second, accelerate integration with next-generation information technologies to promote the intelligent, digital, and networked development of the industry, thereby improving efficiency and enhancing intrinsic safety; third, speed up changes in production methods and corporate operations, combine fertilizer production with other services, and become productive service-oriented enterprises. Li Shousheng, president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, believes that the world economy will be characterized by uncertainty in the coming years. He hopes that the industry will take new steps in terms of \"persisting with fertilizers while moving beyond them,\" making significant improvements in the variety and quality of fertilizers, and especially pursuing a bold transformation toward the chemical industry. “Our group adheres to a fertilizer-based approach to optimize and upgrade its product portfolio. To date, we have developed relatively complete industrial chains in the fields of coal chemicals, salt chemicals, fluorosilicon chemicals, and new chemical materials, with the annual output value increasing from 4 billion yuan to 40 billion yuan. ”Zhang Jincheng, chairman of Luxi Group, introduced their efforts in \"adhering to chemical fertilizers while moving beyond them.\" Gu Zongqin, president of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, proposed four measures to drive the transformation and upgrading of the industry in the future, with supply-side structural reform as the guiding principle. First, it is necessary to meet relevant requirements such as those related to safety, environmental protection, energy consumption, and industrial policies, by implementing proper regulation of total production volume and fostering appropriate development, thereby avoiding blind investment and low-level redundant construction and guiding the orderly withdrawal of outdated production capacity. Second, advanced production, environmental protection, and energy-saving technologies and equipment should be utilized to upgrade existing production capacity and improve the quality of new capacity added. Third, building on the advantages of coal chemistry, efforts should be made to expand the carbon-based chemical industry chain, creating various specialized chemical production sectors that enable differentiated development through different approaches and structures. Fourth, it is essential to meet the requirements for reducing fertilizer use while improving its efficiency as well as promoting sustainable agricultural development, by developing and promoting high-efficiency new types of fertilizers and liquid fertilizers, thereby increasing the efficiency of fertilizer use. “Coal-based syngas is the cornerstone of the nitrogen fertilizer industry, and the transformation and upgrading of this industry can also be considered from the perspective of syngas. ”Gong Huajun, deputy director of the Petrochemical Division at the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning Institute, outlined eight areas of development opportunities for syngas: the integration of coal-based combined production systems with the petrochemical industry, as the joint development of syngas and petrochemicals can significantly improve atom utilization rates and energy conversion efficiency; the production of products that are difficult to obtain through indirect liquefaction methods; downstream materials and chemicals derived from hydroformylation, namely products resulting from oxo processes; the development of new routes for producing petrochemical products; the manufacture of biodegradable materials; the development of the entire nylon production chain, thereby enabling the syngas industry to transition from a sector based on basic raw materials to one focused on end-use applications; the development of industries related to hydrogen; and seizing the opportunities associated with the growth of the hydrogen energy industry. At the meeting, the “Draft Guidelines for the 14th Five-Year Development Plan of the Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry” was released. The draft shows that the key measures for industry development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period include advancing the upgrading of the production capacity structure to improve the quality of industry supply; accelerating the upgrading of the product structure to create new drivers of economic growth; promoting scientific and technological innovation to enhance new drivers of development; focusing on fostering green development to raise standards in safety and environmental protection; and establishing a comprehensive service chain throughout the entire process. The conference also voted to approve the proposal to change the name of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association to the China Nitrogen Fertilizer and Syngas Industry Association.
