The investment of 2.4 billion yuan in Henan’s coking industry integration and upgrading project is accelerating, with production expected to begin in March 2021. According to reports from early December 2020, in line with the \"Anyang City Coking Industry Resource Integration Implementation Plan,\" the first phase of Henan Shuncheng Group’s 2×1.36 million tons/year coking integration and upgrading project is being accelerated. The project was funded by 2.4 billion yuan in a partnership between Henan Shuncheng Group and Fujian Xiangyu Group, and it serves as a key initiative for sustainable green development focused on the integration of steel production and coking within the industrial park. The project is based on phasing out Shuncheng’s five 4.3-meter coke ovens with a total production capacity of 1.5 million tons of coke; at the same time, upgrades to larger-scale equipment are carried out to build super-large tamping coke ovens with 2×64 carbonization chambers and a height of 6.25 meters. The coke production capacity is 1.36 million tons per year. It is possible to recover 55,000 tons of coal tar, 16,000 tons of crude benzene, 19,000 tons of sulfuric acid anhydride, 12,000 tons of concentrated sulfuric acid, as well as generate 200 million kWh of electricity from waste heat. Additionally, CO2 from exhaust gases and hydrogen extracted from coke oven gas can be utilized to produce 110,000 tons of methanol along with 70,000 tons of LNG. The project was designed by MCC Coking & Refractory Engineering Technology Company, constructed by China Ninth Metallurgical Group, and supervised by China Baowu Group’s supervision company. ThyssenKrupp of Germany provided advanced environmental protection technologies and ramming equipment, along with the most sophisticated coking and gas purification systems as well as environmental protection facilities. Among these, the process technology for producing methanol and LNG simultaneously by synthesizing CO2 captured from coke oven gas and industrial waste gases involves using Iceland CRI’s proprietary ETL green methanol synthesis process, along with a new domestic method for purifying coke oven gas through cryogenic separation to capture LNG and CO2. The gas goes through processes such as compression, purification, deep cryogenic separation, methanol synthesis, and distillation to produce green, low-carbon methanol along with LNG. The project construction period is 14 months, with the goal of completing construction and starting operations by March 2021.
