ZHONGHE Gasification: No downtime on the first day of the new year; teams are busy with intercooling retrofits. Author/Source: Zhongke Hefei Coal Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. Date: January 7, 2021. Click-through rate: 14. On the first day of 2021, 14 engineering and design personnel from the projects involving indirect cooling upgrades for fixed-bed gasifiers at Jinmei Tianyuan, Shanxi Jinxiang, and Shanxi Jinfeng, all under Zhongke Hefei Coal Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “ZHONGHE Gasification”), spent the day at their respective project sites. The fixed-bed gasification indirect cooling upgrade projects for Tianyuan Chemical, Shanxi Jinxiang, and Shanxi Jinfeng are part of the in-depth treatment initiatives for industrial furnaces that Sino-Union Gasification carried out in 2020. In response to the requirement set out in the \"Comprehensive Plan for Controlling Air Pollution from Industrial Furnaces\" – namely that industries such as nitrogen fertilizer production should accelerate the transition from direct water washing to indirect cooling for gas cooling when using fixed-bed batch gasifiers – Zhonghe Gasification has leveraged its years of experience in the development, design, and operation of dry cooling and purification systems to innovate an indirect cooling technology suitable for retrofitting batch fixed-bed systems. By integrating the well-proven technologies of cyclone pre-dust removal, dry dust removal, and indirect cooling, it has created an integrated process for gas dust removal and indirect cooling, which enables the recovery of gas dust while addressing the problem of high pollution levels in the water used in direct cooling cycles. All three of the aforementioned projects are renovation projects for the gasification section. They face a tight construction schedule and numerous construction restrictions. In the initial phase of the projects, the renovations proceeded concurrently with production in the plant; after production ceased, the renovations and maintenance activities took place simultaneously. This resulted in many overlapping interfaces, making the renovation efforts particularly challenging. To ensure the project’s construction schedule and workability, Zhonghe Gasification systematically dispatched designers from various specialties to the site, where they adjusted and refined the design plans based on the existing as-built drawings of the facility and the actual conditions on site. The working mode of on-site design is implemented throughout the entire project construction process, and many designers witnessed the transition from autumn to winter at the project site. The project site is at a high altitude; temperatures dropped to zero degrees by late November, and in December extreme weather conditions with temperatures of around minus fifteen or sixteen degrees occurred. The on-site construction and design staff braved the severe cold and hardships, often working late into the night to meet deadlines and accelerate the project progress, pushing forward with the construction at full speed. During the construction process, the project team focused on effective project management, accelerated progress, formulated scientific schedule plans, organized regular project meetings to review the status of implementation. To ensure project progress, they overcame various challenges such as overlapping work areas, numerous inherent obstacles, and the need to carry out renovations simultaneously with production; they tackled each construction bottleneck and successfully fulfilled their goals in an innovative manner. The intercooling renovation at Shanxi Jinxiang is about to be completed ; Tianyuan Chemical’s No. 2 intercooling unit is set to be put into use, while the No. 1 intercooling unit will have its installation completed this month ; The installation in Shanxi Jinfeng is also nearing completion.
