Shaanxi Longhua Technology’s Gasification Unit: #1 Gasifier Operated Continuously for 206 Days

According to Shaanxi Coal Longhua Mining Company, as of May 10, 2026, the gasification unit at Longhua Technology has demonstrated an increased capacity for long-term operation, with no unplanned shutdowns for 321 consecutive days. Unit #1 gasifier has operated stably for 206 days, while the waste heat recovery boiler has continued to produce high-pressure steam at 12.0 MPa and 325°C; the steam output has remained stable at around 60 tons per hour. These achievements have set a new record for the longest continuous operation period since trial production began in August 2024. According to Jinhua Technology, the gasification furnace uses coal produced by Longhua’s own coal mines; the ash content of the coal fed into the furnace can vary widely, with a maximum of 28%, and such fluctuations in coal quality have no significant impact on Jinhua’s Furnace 3.0. To address the long-standing problem in the coal chemical industry of gasifiers that cannot operate for long periods or be shut down easily, Longhua Technology has introduced six measures, as follows. First, upgrade the core components of the process burner to improve the atomization effect of the coal slurry and the success rate of ignition, thereby ensuring stable pressure and temperature in the gasifier from the source. Second, comprehensively address potential hazards such as insufficient negative pressure in the flash vaporization system, vibration in the vent pipelines at the outlet of the gas scrubbing tower, and damage to the black water pipelines, in order to eliminate all safety risks associated with long-term operation. Third, establish a dynamic coal quality database to standardize the coal blending, slurry grinding, and parameter adjustment processes, ensuring stable properties of the coal slurry fed into the furnace. Fourth, address the issues of coking in radiation waste boilers and unstable steam production, improve heat exchange efficiency, and ensure stable steam supply. Fifth, the accuracy of key instruments such as oxygen flow meters and drum level control valves is calibrated, and their materials are upgraded to ensure the stable operation of the control system in harsh environments. Sixthly, it promotes the shift in equipment management from \"reactive maintenance\" to \"predictive maintenance\", establishing a closed-loop system of \"condition monitoring – trend analysis – predictive maintenance\", which results in a 37.2% decrease in equipment failure rates. The first phase of Shaanxi Longhua uses Jinhua furnace gasification to produce 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, 800,000 tons of urea, and 60,000 tons of melamine per year. In August 2024, synthetic ammonia urea production began. In November 2025, a 60,000-ton melamine plant was put into operation. Among them, there are 3 Jinhua Gasification Units 3.0 (two in operation and one as backup), with a gasification pressure of 6.5 MPa, and a total gas output of 204,000 m3/h (CO + H2). Commissioned in August 2024.
