Experts, the workshop currently needs dilute sulfuric acid with a concentration of around 5%. So, when purchasing sulfuric acid for the workshop, is it better to buy acid with a concentration of over 90%, or dilute acid with a concentration of around 50%? If 98% concentrated sulfuric acid is purchased, can it be directly poured into a container, with water added first and then the acid, in order to prepare dilute acid with a 5% concentration?
In my opinion, a 50:1 dilution is more convenient, as it offers better safety in terms of storage, transportation, and preparation
Buy 98 acid and 93 acid that meet **quality standards**. According to the law of conservation of mass, it is prepared in proportion. Use in large quantities; stir while diluting. Pay attention to safety – do not use open flames!
Acid preparation requires an acid pump, an acid preparation tank, and an acid cooler. It is recommended to use dilute acid, as it is cheaper and results in a smaller temperature rise when preparing the acid. If the quantity is large, can you find a titanium dioxide factory in the vicinity that can prepare it according to your requirements? You would cover the shipping costs and arrange to transport it back by yourself (transporting dilute acids is rather troublesome).

It depends on your annual demand. If the demand is low, buy 50%. Given the high demand, buy 93% concentration (for easier transportation), and then get a separate dilution setup.

If the quantity permits, it is recommended to install them consecutively: 1 sulfuric acid mass flow meter, 1 water mass flow meter, 1 5% solution mass flow meter, 2 fluorinated liner control valves, and 1 stainless steel control valve. The CV value must be calculated carefully; the sulfuric acid mass flow meter should be custom-made from E+H tantalum material, while the water mass flow meter should be from Emerson. Proportional control should be configured for this setup. Does the temperature after sulfuric acid preparation have a significant impact on the downstream process? Consider adding a heat exchanger; tantalum should be the preferred material for such heat exchangers. If that’s too expensive, then use 316L instead. Even if you manage to achieve a 5% concentration inside the tank, for safety reasons, it’s highly recommended that the tank be made of steel lined with enamel!
