Can remote weight transmission replace on-site level gauges? Or are there any specifications requiring that on-site level gauges must be installed for elevated tanks?
There seems to be no standard requirement specifying that an on-site level gauge must be installed; it depends on the designers’ judgment. Generally, for those parameters of the equipment that are related to operational safety, I will consider including an on-site instrument so that operators can monitor the internal parameters of the equipment at any time while performing maintenance or operations on it. To prevent fluctuations in on-site parameters; if the DCS operators fail to be notified in time, it could lead to safety accidents. Another advantage of using an on-site instrument is that it can be used for mutual verification with remote instruments. Setting up two remote transmitters is too costly; having one remote transmitter and one local transmitter allows for mutual verification, facilitates on-site operation, and keeps costs low.

It depends on what medium is used in the high-level tank; if it’s not dangerous, it may not be necessary to use it on-site.
