To be honest, OP, the resolution of your images is too low; it’s impossible to see anything clearly. The reason for the diameter change might be that the original pipe diameter is too small – generally, if it’s below DN65 or DN50, a larger-diameter pipe is used. When the pipe diameter is too small, the bimetallic elements or thermal resistors inserted into it are too short, which reduces the measurement accuracy. Additionally, pipes with sleeves have a larger diameter, resulting in higher pressure drops that affect the flow of the medium. I’m not sure if this is what you want; the image isn’t clear.
2L is right; it’s after all a matter related to instrumentation, and once the instrumentation is set up properly, it will benefit the manufacturing process
Under normal circumstances, it should be used for tube expansion. If the diameter is too small, it becomes difficult to install temperature sensors, so the diameter is increased
It’s not possible to determine the diameter of the pipe in the image; it’s likely, as mentioned above, that the pipe is too thin, so an expansion fitting is needed
If the length of the temperature sleeve is minimal, the tube in question is too thin to meet the requirements; that’s why a reducer and a short section are needed. If it’s a thicker tube, then there’s no need for such a reducer. I hope I’m right.
