It is said that the cable trays and trunking installed inside need to be coated with acid-resistant paint; this is part of an expansion project – the original factory’s hot-dip galvanized cable trays and trunking have become corroded after two years. Are there any **standards** for this? The most important factor is the thickness of the coating layer – are there any standards to refer to? Thank you
Cable trays and trunking are hot-dip galvanized to meet the conditions of typical chemical processing facilities, including acidic environments such as acid and alkali stations and sulfur recovery units.
Such places should abandon metal cable trays
It is corrosion caused by acidic gases, such as hydrochloric acid gas. If the mobile phone carried by a worker is not protected, it will be unable to be charged and used after no more than a month! The metal of the charging port is corroded! In a large area around it, the metal will corrode. Only acid- and alkali-resistant non-metallic cable trays can be used here
Our sulfur acidic water stripping unit is also in the acidic gas area; it’s fine. I’ve been using ordinary galvanized box sections for 7 years now, and they haven’t corroded much at all.
Fiberglass can be used, but the projects we are working on currently are exposed to HCL gas corrosion and are located in areas with frequent lightning strikes; therefore, it becomes a problem as to how fiberglass cable trays can meet the requirements for lightning protection.
The fiberglass fire has been going on for some time; it doesn’t seem as hot now.
