When repairing explosion-proof instruments in explosion-proof areas, it is required to first shut down the DCS before opening the cover for maintenance. (My company has basically never experienced power outages.) I would like to ask my colleagues whether they turn off the power before opening the units for maintenance; if they do that, the instrument engineers will be extremely busy. :D
It should be like this; one shouldn’t be afraid of trouble.
Of course, the power needs to be turned off before the cover is opened; after all, it’s 24V, and if it’s not intrinsically safe, sparks can be generated. Of course, this is the rule. If you’re not afraid of death or of taking the blame if something goes wrong, then just open it up for maintenance – I’ve done things like that before. Safety first is not just an empty phrase; when you’re not sure about your own safety, don’t do anything at all. We used to dare to open the covers directly only in well-ventilated areas equipped with gas detectors.

A few days ago, I discussed this matter with my colleagues, and we decided that it is permissible to open the cover for maintenance in an area with good ventilation and when production is running normally without any leaks. However, once production is not operating properly or there are leaking gases in the environment, it is necessary to follow the relevant specifications strictly.
Since it is an instrument for use in an explosion-proof area, that area itself is highly dangerous; one must not act rashly and risk causing an accident. Ignition sources are strictly prohibited in explosion-proof areas.

There are already few instrument technicians in private enterprises, and the workshops are mostly of Class A; it would indeed be difficult to enforce such rules strictly. Are all those that lost power state-owned enterprises, haha? If it is enforced strictly, would signal generators also be prohibited from use in Class A workshops? ? ?

If one is familiar with the materials used in the workshop, it’s generally possible to estimate the amount of gas leakage by simply smelling it; your answer is still very useful as a reference. It can still be strictly implemented if there is sufficient staffing
