We started working here and used 2 of these devices. The supplier said they could be used to measure the liquid level in the vacuum tank. I said that double-flange types probably wouldn’t give accurate readings, and suggested using float-type devices instead. But she said it was okay; the readings were accurate sometimes and not accurate other times. I tested the vacuum level with this device twice: it gave an inaccurate reading at 600 mbar, but an accurate one at 150 mbar. I said that the accuracy must be related to the vacuum level – it’s more accurate at low vacuum levels and becomes unreliable at higher levels. She said it didn’t matter. I asked if anyone had used such devices before, or if double-flange types could be used to measure the liquid level in vacuum tanks
It seems the selection was incorrect; vacuum tanks generally don’t require double-flange level gauges
My understanding is that the principle of electronic differential pressure involves subtracting the pressure values measured by the two pressure transmitters on the high-pressure side and the low-pressure side, in order to determine the liquid level. If the sensor is selected to measure gauge pressure, the low-pressure side at the top of the tank is under vacuum; therefore, the pressure value transmitted by the sensor on that low-pressure side should be negative. Subtracting the two values would result in an incorrect result ; If an absolute-pressure type sensor is used, the reference points for measuring high pressure and low pressure are both based on absolute vacuum; the pressure values obtained are positive numbers. The differential pressure obtained by subtracting one value from another is correct, so the measured values should also be correct.

To measure the liquid level inside a vacuum tank, a vacuum static pressure remote transmission differential pressure transmitter is required; otherwise, the diaphragm box is likely to get damaged. After all, it operates under vacuum conditions for extended periods of time, and the temperature of the liquid in contact with it also has a significant impact.
