How to conduct regular tests on UPS power supplies?

During inspections, it is often mentioned that UPS units should undergo regular charge-discharge tests to determine how long they can function. But how exactly should this test be carried out? Doing it alone, without an actual load, doesn’t allow for an accurate assessment of the UPS’s actual performance; whereas with a load, it operates normally. So what should be done? How do experienced professionals carry out this task in their actual work? I would appreciate some guidance
Ensure that the system has two power supplies in working order, then disconnect the UPS power and switch to battery power.
