Are there any special requirements regarding degreasing and oil removal for hydrogen in pipelines? Are there any relevant regulations or standards? Also, since the pressure is 17 Mpa, are there any special requirements for the pressure sampling pipes? Please advise, experts!
It is said that oil and grease removal are necessary, as well as measures to prevent hydrogen embrittlement; however, there are no standards available for reference. According to clause 7.8.3–2.3 of HG20581-2001 \"Specifications for the Selection of Materials for Steel Chemical Storage Vessels\", austenitic stainless steels do not suffer from hydrogen corrosion when used at the temperatures and hydrogen partial pressures indicated on the Nelson curve. Note 2 in the table of SHT3096-2012 \"Guidelines for Material Selection in the Design of Equipment and Piping for High-Sulfur Crude Oil Processing Plants\" indicates that the use of austenitic stainless steel eliminates the need to consider hydrogen corrosion. However, this standard applies only to equipment; since the wall thickness of equipment is relatively large, the situation is different from that of instruments. If it is a diaphragm gauge, the diaphragm is thin, and hydrogen can easily penetrate through it, causing bulging. In the case of pressure tapping tubes, it is recommended to choose a greater wall thickness, and in that case the equipment standards can be followed. There are no clear standard requirements for oil removal; even standards such as GB50516, which govern hydrogen refueling stations, do not specify the necessity of oil removal.
