As the title suggests, the hydrostatic level gauge is installed outdoors at the bottom of the sewage tank, and there is concern that the short pipe might freeze over in winter. I’d like to ask experts from various fields for any good suggestions. PS: There is a radar level gauge on top; at the time of design, the owner must have requested a static-pressure type to be installed, which now creates a dilemma in terms of installation. The short tube is roughly in the shape of an attachment
Why isn’t there a flange? Leaving aside the issue of whether such thin pipes will freeze, sewage is likely to cause clogs easily. Only insulation and heating are available.
The pipe actually installed is also this thick, DN32 – it won’t get clogged, but the problem is that it’s really inconvenient to add heating The design also lacks the corresponding cables and pipelines
If the internal temperature permits, using thick insulation should suffice; if the temperature is not high, steam heating can be used, and if that’s not convenient, electric heating can be employed
I found 24V electric heating elements; I’m not sure how effective they will be, as long as it doesn’t freeze is enough for me.
Fearing freezing in winter, heating must be added; insulation alone without heating is likely to be ineffective. Steam tracing, hot water tracing, or electric tracing can be used.
Are there conditions at the site to install an immersion-type or static pressure level gauge, which allows the measuring element to be placed directly in the water so that it won’t freeze? If such conditions are not available, then insulation must be applied; it is necessary to determine whether heating is required based on the actual temperature of the fluid at the site
Check the local minimum temperature; if it’s quite below zero, use heating, otherwise just apply insulation
With insulation and heating, it won’t freeze, but such thin pipes are prone to clogging; it’s recommended to clean them regularly
