As the title suggests, is it possible to create a room within Class A workshops to house remote IO cabinets? Would this violate current petrochemical standards?
I don’t think it’s possible; there are usually distance requirements. Does anyone else know anything about this? I’d like to learn more.
We just place it in the workshop, but it needs to be made into a positive-pressure explosion-proof cabinet.
Petrochemical Regulation 5.2.16: The control rooms, cabinet rooms, power distribution stations, laboratories, offices, etc. of facilities shall not be located in the same building as rooms containing Class A or Class B equipment. When the control room of the installation is built together with other buildings, an independent fire compartment should be provided. If it’s Category A or B, there’s nothing that can be done; other options can be considered
It’s not allowed in the cabinet room, but you can give it a different name, like the IO room, haha – that’s a way of avoiding regulation, right?
It can be installed, but it’s better not to. The design and construction are straightforward, but what about maintenance? It’s not practical to make all the components inside explosion-proof; and even if that were possible, the cost would be exorbitant. With other explosion-proof designs, power has to be cut off in order to carry out maintenance, and who can tolerate that?
Remote IO should have intrinsically safe features, right? In areas such as Class A factories or Zone 2, intrinsically safe IO modules should be able to be installed there.
