With radar available, the most cost-effective option is a double-flange level transmitter; servo level gauges are too expensive. Ultrasonic level gauges, submersible level gauges, and single-flange level gauges are not suitable for sealed containers. Other types of level gauges such as float level gauges, magnetic flap level gauges, and magnetostrictive level gauges are also not appropriate for storage tanks with such large measurement ranges

When it’s not convenient to provide a pressure tapping point in the liquid phase of the tank, I simply use the gas phase – I insert two probe types into the tank, one into the liquid phase and the other suspended in the gas phase. There are no pre-installed flange connections in the tank area; what type of level gauge is suitable?
Unless this spherical tank can be drilled (it is likely to be difficult to carry out drilling work, as considerations such as explosion prevention and pressure resistance tests must be taken into account), a differential pressure level transmitter should be used if drilling is possible. If high precision is not required, the manhole cover on the storage tank can be taken to a safe location for drilling, or flanges can be welded in place; spherical tanks usually have two manholes, one at the top and one at the bottom. Generally, the sensor located at the bottom may be affected by the accumulation of impurities. Other contact-type level gauges are too expensive and too troublesome, so they are not recommended.
