Dear control experts, I would like to ask whether the DCS system can generate operation and fault signals, and whether the SIS system can do the same.
Is the output signal from the system owner to be connected to another system, or is it only used to display operation status and alarms on the control station?
Generally, control systems such as DCS, SIS, and CCS have self-diagnosis output alarms that indicate fault signals for the controller, IO cards, communication cards, etc., respectively.

Yes! But the operating modes are different. DCS is in continuous mode, while SIS has three modes: low, high, and continuous. Even if the DCS is configured to reach the SIL1 level, it actually cannot achieve the SIL1 level required for continuous operation in a SIS system. It’s a shame that many people don’t know.
