Flow characteristic of control valve

For conventional control valves, the equal percentage flow characteristic, or EQ%, is used; but under what circumstances is a linear characteristic chosen??? Has it been used in any designs?

Equal percentages are used more frequently and can suit most objects. For the liquid level, a linear option can be chosen.
