In my work, double flanges are the most commonly used. Recently, I came across information on single flanges while browsing a manual; I searched online for details about the differences between the two, but didn’t find much information, so I’m turning to this forum to ask the experienced experts here for their advice. In terms of installation, dual-flange valves have flanges on both sides, which are independent of each other; removing the pipeline on one side does not affect the pipeline on the other side. In contrast, with single-flange valves, removing the pipeline results in the entire valve being taken out as well. Therefore, in some situations, such as when it is more appropriate to use a single-flange valve at the end of the pipeline, or when certain requirements exist, dual-flange valves are a better choice. Question: 1. From a process perspective, what are the differences between the two types of flanges? 2. Considering the requirements for installation precision and sealing, is it more difficult to install a single-flange type?
If it were up to me, I would choose the flanged type; I wouldn’t use the butt-type. Those with a smaller diameter and lower pressure are more commonly used in process pipelines or skid-mounted equipment for water and air; however, personally, I prefer the flange type as it is easier to install and maintain
