Our factory currently uses tar-ammonia water separation tanks for oil-water separation. There are a total of five level control valves, arranged from top to bottom as 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Under normal operation, the oil level is below valve number 3; while when the level is above valve numbers 3, 4, and 5, it indicates the presence of ammonia water. The oil output per shift is within normal parameters, with a water content of less than 4%. The problem is that occasionally, the fifth valve discharges black water; the fourth valve discharges water of a slightly lighter color; the third valve discharges gray clear water; the second and first valves discharge black water. Moreover, the water content in the oil output is about 10% higher than normal, but this returns to normal on its own after one or two days without any special actions being required. I’m not sure where the problem lies; I hope the teachers can give me some guidance.
Were there any special operations carried out on the coke oven during those days or the days before when the problem occurred?
According to the reactions in the coke oven workshop, no parameters were adjusted, but I think there might be an issue with the temperature in the roof space of the oven.
Well, it’s very likely. Did it rain during those days? Is the coal loading height in the coke oven sufficient? These are factors that affect the spatial temperature. Anyway, it’s necessary to look for reasons from various angles. I think such issues must be given proper attention; otherwise, if things get worse, it will be difficult to deal with them, and I know this from experience!

Problems with coke oven operation: One issue is excessive coal collapse, which results in a large amount of coal dust entering the chemical production system. At the same time, the heating regime of the coke oven is not adjusted in a timely manner, leading to excessively high temperatures in the roof area of the oven and severe tar cracking.
Ask the original poster: do you use vertical or horizontal tar and ammonia separators, and which manufacturer makes them? Could you let me know?
