I would like to ask the experts why, given the different capabilities of the devices, the investment required for transformation varies so much. For example, in a 500,000-ton synthetic ammonia plant, the cost of synthesis gas is around 140,000 yuan, while the investment required for the shift unit is about 80 million yuan. For an 1.8-million-ton methanol plant with 520,000 tons of synthesis gas per year, the investment in the shift unit is approximately 400 million yuan. The volume is 3 times greater; so why is the investment amount 5 times higher?

I just did a rough calculation using the scale index method, and the investment cost for the proposed project comes out to 320 million yuan. However, the 1.8 million-ton methanol shift unit essentially consists of two separate units (this was not taken into account in the calculations). As the scale increases, the range of available technical options narrows, which inevitably leads to higher costs. There are also differences in the choice of shift catalysts; currently, large-scale shift catalysts are mostly pre-sulfurized catalysts.
I looked at this question and have some doubts: 1. Are the gasification conditions the same? Is it the same gasification technology? Different types of gasification technologies have significant differences in the water-to-gas ratio, as well as in the gas composition. 2. Are the equipment included in the conversion unit identical, as some design institutes prefer to place the boiler feedwater treatment in the conversion zone?
