The first domestically developed coal and coke hydrogen production plant was successfully commissioned in Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ningbo. Author/Source: Yaha Coal Chemical Industry. On January 31, the entire production process of the coal and coke hydrogen production plant at Sinopec’s Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co. was completed successfully, with qualified products being produced. This marks the successful commissioning of China’s first coal and coke hydrogen production plant that utilizes domestically developed high-pressure water-coal (coke) slurry gasification technology, and it will help ensure the production of clean fuels such as those meeting National VI standards at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co. Using water-coal slurry as raw material – a clean energy source obtained through physical processing of coal, water, and additives in specific proportions – this device can produce 120,000 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour, thereby further enhancing the company’s capacity for producing clean fuels. The Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. coal coke hydrogen production project is a key scientific and technological initiative of Sinopec, with an approved investment of 1.5 billion yuan; it is under the general contract of Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Company. The water-coal slurry gasification unit, which constitutes the core of the device, utilizes a technology developed through collaboration between Sinopec and East China University of Science and Technology; this represents the first industrial application of such technology in China. The unit was successfully started up with feed introduction at 19:26 on January 30; 13 hours later, the product met the quality standards, setting a new record for the commissioning of similar units in China. During the detailed design phase, Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. held 14 specialized meetings with the design institute, proposing over 1,200 optimization suggestions in an effort to strive for excellence from the very beginning of the design process. Compared with similar technologies, the SE push-flow coal (coke) slurry gasification technology used in the gasification unit of the core part of the device boasts significant advantages of \"two highs, two lows, and one long lifespan\": high gasification efficiency, high effective gas yield, low coal consumption, low oxygen consumption, and a long service life for refractory bricks. To ensure a successful first start-up of the unit, Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. and Ningbo Engineering Company worked closely together. The start-up expert team from Sinopec provided on-site guidance to facilitate the unit’s startup, analyzed existing problems promptly, and helped to resolve them. In light of the characteristics of \"new employees and new equipment,\" Zhenhai Refining & Chemical carries out rigorous and thorough personnel training, striving to turn these \"new employees\" into competent professionals. It also prepares detailed start-up plans to ensure a safe, environmentally friendly, smooth, and economical operation. At present, the hydrogen produced by the device has a purity of 98.27%, and all process and environmental protection parameters meet the design requirements. The successful commissioning of this facility not only plays a vital role in helping Zhenhai Refining & Chemical to enhance its capacity for producing clean petroleum products and thereby improving the company’s overall competitiveness, but it also holds significant importance in exploring ways to utilize coal resources in a cleaner manner, especially in the context of the growing emphasis on the use of hydrogen as a new energy source.
