Several MTO units were put into operation one after another in the second half of last year. I wonder if anyone has encountered any strange, troublesome, or alarming situations during their operation; I’d like to share those experiences here so that everyone can gain some insight, and it might also help to solve your own problems. It is best to remove it; if the process heating furnace is used, heat will be lost, and the temperature of the gaseous methanol coming out of the methanol vaporizer will drop, which may lead to the presence of liquid methanol in the stream, thereby reducing the feed temperature and affecting the reaction temperature.
There is no need for removal; the effect of rapid heat exchange is good right from the start. Both internal heating and emergency cooling with atomization need to be utilized, so there’s no need to worry about heat loss when the furnace is turned on. It’s convenient to use the furnace again in case of an emergency shutdown of the plant, and many plants these days rely on this approach. If the effect of rapid heat exchange deteriorates as the plant operates for a longer period, it’s still necessary to use the furnace again. Therefore, removal isn’t necessary
