Recently, the standard **“Synthetic Natural Gas from Coal” (GB/T 33445-2016)****, developed under the leadership of the Coal-Based Chemicals Sub-committee of the National Coal Chemicals Standardization Technical Committee affiliated with Southwest Chemical Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., was approved for issuance by the Standardization Administration Committee (Announcement on Standards of the People’s Republic of China, No. 27, 2016). It will come into effect on July 1, 2017. With the introduction of the **Action Plan for Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal (2015–2020)**, accelerating the revolution in energy consumption, improving the level of clean and efficient coal utilization, effectively reducing pressure on resources and the environment, and establishing a modern coal utilization system that is clean, efficient, low-carbon, safe, and sustainable constitute the goals and directions for the development of modern coal chemical industry. Coal-to-synthetic natural gas holds broad prospects for development as a key technological approach for the efficient utilization of clean coal. It is predicted that by 2020, China’s coal-to-natural gas production capacity will reach 20 billion cubic meters per year. \"Coal-to-Synthetic Natural Gas\" is the first **standard** in the field of coal-to-synthetic natural gas both domestically and internationally. This standard sets technical specifications for key parameters such as the high calorific value, as well as hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, in coal-to-synthetic natural gas. It provides guidelines and rules to be followed during the transportation, blending, and consumption of this type of gas, thereby contributing to the steady development of China’s coal-to-synthetic natural gas industry. The implementation of this standard will play an important role in guiding and supporting the development of China’s coal-to-natural gas industry. It is understood that in 2016, the Coal-Based Chemicals Sub-committee of the National Coal Chemicals Standardization Technical Committee officially launched the research and development of 8 coal chemical industry standards, namely \"Coal-based Synthetic Natural Gas for Vehicles\", \"Alkyl Ether Aromatics\", \"Coal-based Mixed Pentenes\", \"Gasoline Components from Direct Coal Liquefaction\", \"Naphtha from Direct Coal Liquefaction\", \"Gasoline Components from Fertile Process Synthesis\", \"Naphtha from Fertile Process Synthesis\", and \"Gasoline Components from Methanol Production\". The research and review of these standards were to be completed by June 2017, which will play a positive role in promoting the clean and efficient use of coal.
