Light hydrocarbons include small-molecule olefins, such as ethylene and propylene; in other words, the conversion of methanol into olefins is just a specific case of converting methanol into light hydrocarbons. The process of converting methanol into light hydrocarbons encompasses the conversion of methanol into olefins as well, but the conversion of methanol into olefins is more targeted at producing specific products. It’s a bit like a philosophical question, huh.
Your insights on these processes are quite interesting. My understanding of MTP is methanol-to-propylene, not a definition of the catalyst usage form. MTO stands for Methanol-to-Olefins; it produces mainly mixed olefins, that is, primarily ethylene and propylene. FMTP specifically refers to the methanol-to-propylene process that uses a fluidized bed for catalyst application.

DMTO’s coal-based olefins go through MTO first, and then olefin separation is carried out by Huisheng in China. Currently, both MTO and CTO basically proceed via the methanol route
