I would like to ask experts in instrumentation about the significance of the BMS combustion control system for sulfur processing units, and whether it can be replaced What is the reason? Why is it necessary to take BMS? Instead of other control systems?
Currently, many units that utilize domestic sulfur recovery technologies are controlled by DCS; are the units equipped with BMS combustion control systems based on foreign technology? If the process package requires a BMS system, it is generally installed as specified to avoid disputes during the unit’s acceptance testing.
I asked, and some design institutes use this approach. I wanted to know if there are any issues if DCS is used instead What’s the actual advantage of using this? From the perspectives of cost and safety, is it a bonus or essential?
The BMS system draws on the control principles of boiler combustion systems and is relatively mature. In China, as long as the process package is well-developed, DCS systems can be used for both control and interlock functions, with no significant differences observed. As for the cost, it depends on whether the system used is domestic or imported; domestic systems are cheaper.
The BMS system on sulfur recovery units has not been specifically studied; experience from domestic boiler combustion control systems can be used as a reference. We have several sulfur recovery units controlled by domestic DCS systems, and they are operating very well.
Are there any materials available on this topic? I want to determine now whether it is necessary to use this BMS system, from operational and safety perspectives.
BMS and DCS are two separate control systems, and they each have their own areas of focus BMS, ESD, and SIS can all be regarded as the safety interlock systems of a device; for simplicity, I will cite a more authoritative definition here.
In general, for the Claus sulfur production process, when foreign technology is adopted, certain requirements are placed on BMS within the process package; however, domestic products can also meet these functional requirements. The price difference between the two types is around twice
