On February 21, China Chemical Donghua Tianye New Materials Co., Ltd. held a meeting to initiate the commissioning process for the PBAT production facility; the meeting was chaired by the company’s general manager, Liu Jun, and was attended by over 40 people, including representatives from the EPC contractor, the supervision team, and other members involved in the commissioning process. At the meeting, Mao Yujie, the design manager of the EPC contractor, provided a detailed overview of the plan for the joint command center for the commissioning of the PBAT project, and explained the structure of the commissioning team, the tasks assigned to its members, as well as their responsibilities. Liu Jun put forward three requirements regarding this commissioning process. The holding of this meeting marks a critical turning point from a static to an active phase, as the project construction is about to enter the stage of partial commissioning. Project Overview: On December 26, 2022, a grand ceremony was held to mark the completion of the mechanical construction phase of the first phase of the project undertaken by Sinochem Donghua Tianye, which aims to produce 500,000 tons of PBAT per year, as well as another facility designed to produce 100,000 tons of PBAT per year. This project is a high-quality initiative jointly funded by Donghua Technology, which is part of China National Chemical Engineering Group, and Xinjiang Tianye Co., Ltd. It represents the first industrial project resulting from a partnership between Shihezi City in the Eighth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and a central state-owned enterprise. As planned, the project is set to begin trial operation in the first quarter of 2022. In March 2021, Donghua Technology and Xinjiang Tianye signed an agreement to jointly invest in the construction of a 100,000-ton/year PBAT production facility. Construction of the project began on March 26. The PBAT project is the first industrial project resulting from a partnership between Shihezi City in the Eighth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and a central state-owned enterprise; it is also considered the “No. 1 Project” of the Eighth Division. On March 26, a grand groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of the first phase of the project at Sinochem Donghua Tianye New Materials Co., Ltd., which is designed to produce 500,000 tons of PBAT per year along with related products. The capacity of the first phase is 100,000 tons per year; the total investment for this phase is approximately 650 million yuan, of which 520 million yuan is allocated to construction costs. The site covers an area of about 150 mu, and the construction period is expected to be 1 year ; The planning for a project with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of PBAT and 300,000 tons of BDO in the second phase is also underway. Sinochem Donghua Tianye was established through a joint venture between Donghua Technology and Xinjiang Tianye, with Donghua Technology holding 51% of the shares and Xinjiang Tianye holding 49%. Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. is a Shenzhen-listed company affiliated with China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation. It holds Class A qualifications for comprehensive engineering design, and enjoys a good reputation in industries such as chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, municipal environmental protection, construction, and energy. It possesses extensive experience in project construction and operation management within the chemical and environmental protection sectors. A powerful partnership: Donghua handles the engineering construction, while Tianye provides BDO services. Donghua Technology will leverage its experience and technical expertise in the expansion of industrial facilities and in project contracting to undertake the construction and operation of PBAT production facilities through Donghua Tianye. Xinjiang Tianye has a BDO production capacity of 210,000 tons, ranking among the top in China. Upon completion of the project, Xinjiang Tianye will make full use of its expertise, performance records, and management capabilities in the production of calcium carbide, BDO, ethylene glycol, and other products. It will also leverage and integrate the resources and strengths of both shareholders, thereby achieving complementary advantages and mutual benefit. This approach will help open up new business areas for the sustainable development of both parties and foster their common growth. Donghua Technology’s research and development achievement, the \"highly efficient titanium-based catalyst for PBAT synthesis,\" was approved. In June of this year, Donghua Technology established the China Chemical Environmental Protection Research Institute as well as the Hefei R&D Center of Zhonghua Chemical Science and Technology Research Co., Ltd., aiming to create a hub for environmental protection technologies, a site for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, a platform for integrating scientific resources, a gathering place for top talents, and a model for scientific research reform – including research on PBAT, a biodegradable material. At the beginning of August, a review meeting for the achievement of the \"highly efficient titanium-based catalyst for PBAT synthesis\" developed by Donghua Technology was held in Hefei. The expert group unanimously agreed that the overall technical level of this research achievement is at the leading level in the country, and approved its evaluation as a scientific and technological achievement. It is reported that the high-efficiency titanium-based catalysts used for PBAT synthesis feature high catalytic activity, controllable polymerization reactions, and stable performance, offering superior overall performance compared to the commonly used antimony-based and germanium-based catalysts. This technological achievement will first be applied to the Donghua Tianye PBAT industrialization project, and then promoted within the industry based on the results of its application.
