Dear experts, I have a question. The nitrogen produced by the PSA nitrogen generator in our company differs from the nitrogen purchased from outside. When analyzing the nitrogen produced internally using a mass spectrometer, a substance with a relative molecular mass of 40 was detected in the nitrogen spectrum, but this substance is not present in the nitrogen purchased externally. Does anyone know what this substance is?
Given its relative molecular mass of 40, this substance is very likely carbon dioxide (CO2). The nitrogen produced by PSA nitrogen generators contains small amounts of impurity gases such as oxygen and water vapor; furthermore, due to improper operation or equipment issues, other pollutants may also be generated. It is recommended to inspect and maintain the equipment of the nitrogen generator to ensure its proper operation and stable gas production. Additionally, if high-purity nitrogen is required, other gas sources such as liquid nitrogen or high-purity gas cylinders can be considered. .
With a molecular weight of 40, it should be argon Ar. In air separation units, argon is also produced as a by-product, and the nitrogen product essentially contains no argon.
