Coal-to-olefins technology

I’ve heard that there are two methods for producing olefins from coal – a one-step process and a two-step process. What is the difference between them? Which sea friend can give an answer? Thank you!

The one-step method is under investigation. No industrialization performance yet. Syngas is directly used to produce ethylene, propylene, etc. Two-step method: All current methods are two-step methods. Coal is used to produce methanol, which is then used to make ethylene and propylene.
