All paraffins consist, in principle, mainly of straight-chain hydrocarbons, with a small amount of branched-chain hydrocarbons; however, the paraffins produced by F-T synthesis contain even less branched-chain hydrocarbons. The biggest difference between these two types of paraffin is their raw materials ； Secondly, petroleum-based paraffins may contain trace amounts of naphthenes or even aromatics, whereas paraffins synthesized via F-T process contain virtually no naphthenes or aromatics.
