In terms of design, the purging prior to startup is carried out using low-pressure steam pipelines, and generally unpurified air is used for such purging. Therefore, my question is whether it is appropriate to use steam for purging. Also, when using steam to purge the liquid-phase pipelines, should the steam flow inside the equipment to pass through it, or should it bypass the equipment?

Steam purging should be carried out in stages: purge thoroughly in front of the equipment before moving on to purge it from the back. Due to limitations such as design temperature and material properties, it is not recommended to use steam for purging non-steam pipelines.
The design can no longer be changed now; the purging can only be done using steam and nitrogen. However, nitrogen cannot be used for this purpose. A few pipelines are okay, but for the most part, steam is still necessary. I’m also concerned about the risk that the anti-corrosion coating on the tanks might come off during the purging process. Other issues such as water hammer and burns have also been taken into consideration
