Latest Progress on Zhong’an United’s 1.7 million tons per year coal-to-olefins project Author/Source: Yahuahua Coal Chemicals Date: April 12, 2018 Clicks: 42 After preliminary preparations such as the setup of scaffolding at the construction site and the preparation of building materials, assembly of the first spherical tank in the pressure vessel area of Zhong’an United’s coal chemical project began on April 6. The pressure tank area is designed to house 24 spherical tanks with a total capacity of 30,400 m3; these are primarily used for storing materials such as propylene, ethylene, and crude gasoline. Completion of construction is scheduled by the end of September. As pressure vessels, spherical tanks have high requirements regarding both the materials used and the quality of construction. The project contractors implement strict quality control from the stage of preparing materials for the tank’s construction; they establish quality control points for key stages such as material inspection, tank assembly, welding, testing, and post-construction handling, thereby ensuring high standards in equipment construction and enabling the project to be completed on time and to the required quality. The 1.7 million tons per year coal-to-methanol and associated olefins project of Zhongan United Coal Industry & Chemical Co., Ltd. has set a target to light the boilers on August 30, 2018. With the construction goal of \"working hard for 100 days to ensure completion by August 30,\" the various EPC contractors involved in the project have made thorough plans, mobilized their efforts, established measures, and ensured implementation, thus sparking a new wave of activity in the project’s construction. The 1.7 million tons per year coal-to-methanol and converted olefins project of Zhongan United Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. is a key construction project of Sinopec and Anhui Province. The core process of the project utilizes S-MTO patented technology owned by Sinopec, while the gasification unit employs SE-Dongfang furnace technology also owned by Sinopec. Using coal from the Zhujixi mine as raw material, methanol and converted olefins (LDPE/PP), ethylene glycol (MEG) and other products are produced. Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. is responsible for the overall management of the design, procurement, and construction of the MTO/OCC and PP units in this project, as well as six supporting facilities including the control room and 110 kV substation ; Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Co., Ltd. is responsible for the design and construction of the gasification unit for the contracted project. Zhongan United Coal & Chemical Co., Ltd. was established on December 18, 2010, with a registered capital of 4 billion yuan. It is funded equally at 50% each by Sinopec Corporation and Anhui Wanbei Coal and Electricity Group Co., Ltd. On December 7, 2016, a preparatory meeting was held for the resumption of work on the Zhong’an Coal Chemical Project to arrange the preparations for its restart. In January 2017, a meeting on resuming work on the Zhong’an project was held in Huainan. The project headquarters issued the \"Notice on Resuming Construction of the Zhong’an United Coal Chemical Project\" (Petrochemical Shares Construction and Refining [2017] No. 6), announcing that work on the Zhong’an United Coal Chemical Project would officially resume.
