By switching from producing metallurgical coke to chemical coke, and using that chemical coke as a raw material for gas production and methanol synthesis, it is possible to produce stable light hydrocarbons. This approach enables product upgrading and industrial transformation, facilitating the shift from traditional coal-based chemical industries to new types of petrochemical industries.” ”As explained on November 27 by E Jiaxin, an engineer at Baotailong Company’s 300,000-ton stable light hydrocarbons plant. The total investment for the 300,000-ton stable light hydrocarbons project is 3.0639 billion yuan, with a land area of 39.75 hectares. Construction began in July 2013, requiring 823,300 tons of chemical coke and 1.596 million tons of fuel coal per year. Once in operation, it will be able to produce 600,000 tons of methanol (an intermediate product) per year, along with 206,000 tons of stable light hydrocarbons, 28,800 tons of LPG, and 22,500 tons of heavy aromatic hydrocarbons. At present, the production facilities such as coke gas generation, gas purification, and syngas compression, as well as the auxiliary production facilities like air separation units and refrigeration stations, along with the corresponding utility systems and auxiliary facilities, have all been completed, and the equipment has been tuned up. The environmental protection measures associated with the project, such as wastewater treatment, reuse of gasifier slag and boiler slag, and site greening, have all met the required standards. E Jiaxin pointed to the process flow diagram and explained that initially, gas production was carried out using a pure oxygen-steam atmospheric pressure continuous gasification process; after methanol, the raw material, was produced, it was sent to the reactor for the synthesis of stable light hydrocarbons after being preheated, evaporated, and superheated. Methanol is converted in this reactor into a mixture of gasoline, LPG, fuel gas, and water, which then enters a water-removal separator for stabilized light hydrocarbons. Finally, in the product separation tower, the crude stabilized light hydrocarbons are separated into light-component stabilized light hydrocarbons and mixed aromatics. The product at the top of the tower is completely condensed into stable light hydrocarbons, which, after being cooled by circulating water, are sent to the tank area. E Jiaxin said that the significance of building the project to produce 300,000 tons of stable light hydrocarbons from coke lies in breaking the traditional linkage between coke production and steel manufacturing on an industrial level. This allows coke production to be free from the influence of the steel manufacturing market, enabling a transition from metallurgical coke to chemical coke. It also facilitates an industrial upgrade from traditional coal-based chemical industries to coal-based petrochemical industries. Given our country’s energy structure, which features an abundance of coal but a shortage of oil, this is of great significance for ensuring **energy security. The project will come online in the near future, serving as a model for coal chemical enterprises to pursue transformation and development in line with **energy security goals.
