Successful Installation of Jinhua Reactors in Shandong Jincheng Chemical’s Coal-to-Hydrogen Project Author/Source: Yahuah Coal Chemical Industry Date: April 25, 2019 Clicks: 24 On April 23, 2019, two Jinhua reactors were successfully installed at Shandong Jincheng Chemical Technology Co., Ltd., marking the entry of the coal gasification phase of this coal-to-hydrogen project into its final equipment installation stage. The Shandong Jincheng coal-to-hydrogen project utilizes the water-cooled wall direct-connected waste boiler gasifier technology (Jinhua Furnace 3.0) developed by Beijing Qingchuang Jinhua Technology Co., Ltd. The gasification pressure is 6.5 MPaG, and the effective gas production capacity of each furnace is 60,000 Nm3/h (CO + H2). The gasification units are operated in a one-in-one-backup configuration. The engineering design was carried out by Anhui Huadong Chemical Pharmaceutical Engineering Co., Ltd. Following the commissioning of the three Jinhua furnaces at Henan Jindadi in February this year, three more such furnaces will come online this year. The Jinhua furnace at Shanxi Nanyao will begin operations in June 2019, the one at Xinjiang Tianye will start operating in October 2019, and the one at Shandong Jincheng will go into operation by the end of 2019. In 2019, the promotion of Jinhua furnaces accelerated significantly; from the beginning of the year to date, contracts have been signed with companies such as Shandong Shengxing, Inner Mongolia Kailuan, Zhejiang Juhua, Baosteel Gas, and Chongqing Yihua. This demonstrates that the success of Jinhua furnaces has been widely recognized by the industry. The Jinhua furnace was developed under the leadership of the Shanxi Clean Energy Research Institute at Tsinghua University, in collaboration with Beijing Qingchuang Jinhua Technology Co., Ltd., Yangmei Fengxi Fertilizer (Group) Co., Ltd., and Shanxi Yangmei Chemical Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd. It represents a new gasification technology that possesses independent intellectual property rights. The upper combustion chamber of the Jinhua furnace (slurry coal + membrane water wall + radiant waste boiler + quenching) adopts a vertically suspended membrane water wall structure, which is well-established in the field of thermal engineering. By utilizing the principle of slag protection, the gasification temperature can be increased to 1700°C, thereby completely overcoming the limitation imposed by the ash melting point of different coal types in conventional refractory brick gasification furnaces; as a result, this furnace can handle a wide range of coal types. The hydraulic circulation of the water wall adopts an intrinsically safe natural circulation design with forced circulation, enabling energy-efficient operation with low resistance and ensuring the safety of the water wall in the event of a power failure to the circulation pump, thereby **improving the operational reliability of the water wall**. A radiant waste boiler is installed at the lower part of the combustion chamber; through its unique, efficient radiative heating surface structure, it recovers the sensible heat from the crude syngas, effectively preventing problems such as slag formation and ash accumulation. This allows the gasifier to produce high-quality steam alongside syngas, resulting in a syngas/steam co-generation unit that improves energy utilization efficiency.
