Yangzi Petrochemical’s VOCs Emission Control Technology as a Substitute for Imported Solutions Author/Source: Sinopec News Network Date: May 14, 2019 Clicks: 101 Recently, Yangzi Petrochemical reached an agreement with a large petrochemical company in Guangdong; that company will use the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) emission control technology developed by Yangzi Petrochemical itself. This is another successful case of this technology replacing imports. The core technology of VOC exhaust treatment processes is the catalyst. Due to technical limitations, most catalysts used in China to treat industrial VOC emissions are currently imported, resulting in high costs. The Yangzi Petrochemical Research Institute carried out independent research and development; it completed 2,000 hours of pilot tests using this catalyst in 2013, and in 2014 it set up an industrial-scale catalyst production laboratory of its own. There, catalysts that met the requirements for treating exhaust gases from the company’s PTA (pure terephthalic acid) plants were successfully produced, and efforts were made to accelerate their industrial application. They have successively developed an industrial-grade catalyst (YZW-400) suitable for exhaust gas treatment, the YZW-800 catalyst designed to meet the requirements of low-temperature treatment, and the YZW-200 catalyst specifically intended for dealing with large volumes of pollutants at low concentrations. Yangzi Petrochemical’s VOCs exhaust gas treatment technology has obtained 3 **patent approvals and 2 awards for scientific and technological achievements, and has been successfully applied in 13 chemical processing units at various companies in China. Next, building on this foundation, they will develop a series of catalysts and complete sets of process technologies to expand the areas of application, with the goal of establishing an environmental protection industry chain with independent intellectual property rights by 2020, thereby fully replacing imported products.
