On October 18, the signing ceremony for the joint venture agreement between Shanghai Gaolu Air Products Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was held in Beijing. Liu Junyi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Lu’an Group, Xiao Yaning, Deputy General Manager, as well as representatives from shareholders such as Shanghai Lianhe Investment, Shanghai High-Tech Research Institute, Air Products Company, and Shanghai Sarei Low-Carbon Energy Partnership, attended the signing ceremony. It is reported that the joint venture Shanghai Gaolu Air Products Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was established with the aim of promoting the commercialization and application of methane and carbon dioxide reforming technologies. At the signing ceremony, representatives of each shareholder delivered speeches, stating that the signing of this joint venture agreement marked another successful outcome of their cooperation. They expressed the hope that the new company would focus on research and development as well as the application of advanced technologies, adhere to the principles of innovative development, take on the mission of driving the energy revolution, and usher in a new era for the advancement of the air chemical industry. They also offered suggestions regarding the operation of the new company, provided guidance for its development, and placed high expectations on it. Xiao Yaning, Deputy General Manager of Lu’an Group; Hu Jing, Vice President of Global Gasification Technologies and Large Energy Project Development at Air Products; Ye Jun, President of Shanghai Lianhe Investment; Huang Weiguang, Deputy Dean of the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute; and Sun Yuhan, Director of the Key Laboratory affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective shareholders. The CH4-CO2 reforming technology was jointly developed by Lu’an Group, the Shanghai Institute of Advanced Study of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shell. At present, the stable operation and optimization of the demonstration device have been achieved, resulting in a large-scale industrial design software package. The successful development of this technology will enable the stable operation of the world’s first industrial-side unit for the autothermal reforming of methane and carbon dioxide to produce syngas on a scale of 10,000 Nm3/h. This will lead to the reduction of emissions of both CH4 and CO2, facilitate the comprehensive utilization of resources, and achieve a high degree of harmony among economic, social, and environmental benefits. It provides a solution for China’s path toward low-carbon energy development; taking into account carbon tax revenues and certain policy incentives, it holds good prospects for development and adoption.
