Latest Progress on Jiu Tai New Materials’ Coal-based Ethylene Glycol Project in Inner Mongolia Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry Date: 12-12-2019 Clicks: 49 On December 4, the construction of the boiler island for Jiu Tai New Materials’ project aimed at producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year began with the lifting of the steam drum of Boiler No. 3. The steam drum weighed 69 tons, and it was lifted using two 10-ton cranes. This was another significant milestone following the successful lifting of Boiler No. 4’s steam drum on November 28. The lifting and installation of the steam drum for Boiler No. 3 marks the entry into the heating surface installation phase for the 4X460t/h natural circulation fluidized bed boilers that are part of Jiutai New Materials’ project to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year, thereby laying the foundation for the next steps in the boiler island construction. On November 26, a review meeting was held for the detailed design of the environmental protection facility for Inner Mongolia Jiu Tai New Materials’ 1 million-ton ethylene glycol project. Technical personnel from Southwest Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., Fujian Longjing Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Zhongkong Technology Co., Ltd., and the New Materials Company attended the meeting. The meeting provided a detailed introduction to the system process design, and further discussed and optimized the design proposals. It also addressed issues related to the configuration of the environmental protection island, laying the foundation for its subsequent installation, commissioning, and operational use. The 1 million-ton per year ethylene glycol production project of Inner Mongolia Jiutai New Materials Co., Ltd. is located in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park in Hohhot. With a total investment of 13.3 billion yuan, the project uses aerospace-based coal gasification and Shell’s gasification technologies, low-temperature methanol washing technology, as well as the world-leading formaldehyde hydroxymethylation technology developed by Davy Company to produce ethylene glycol. Among them, Air Products and Chemicals Inc. of the United States invested 4.8 billion yuan to construct the air separation and gasification areas. The project construction period is 3 years, with trials scheduled for 2020 and full operation to commence in 2021. In June 2017, the plan for the project with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene glycol was revised; it was changed from producing 1.7 million tons of coal-based olefins and related fine products per year to producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year.
