From May 13th to 14th, the meeting on the overall design for Phases 1 and 2 of this demonstration project was successfully held in Chengdu. Liu Wansheng, the chief engineer of Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical, along with deputy engineers Sun Guaixu, Wu Dongsheng and other company leaders, attended the meeting; Wu Danong, a senior expert from Donghua Technology, led the team that participated in this meeting. At the meeting, Wu Danong stated that, as part of the overall design work for this project, Donghua Technology will carry out thorough research on various specialized plans, work closely with the main design institute and other related institutes, and submit a high-quality overall design to lay the foundation for the successful implementation of the second phase of the project. Previously, Donghua Technology had undertaken the design and PC general contracting work for the ethylene glycol production facility with an annual capacity of 1.8 million tons as part of Phase 1 of the demonstration project on the selective utilization of coal to produce new chemical materials at Shaanxi Coal Group’s Yulin Chemical plant. Now, it has taken on the overall design of the core facilities in Phase 2 of this project, including gasification, purification, methanol synthesis, and air separation units. This reflects the high level of trust and recognition placed in Donghua Technology by the owners of Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical. The successful holding of this kick-off meeting marks the official launch of the overall design work for this project, as well as a new phase in the cooperation between Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical and Donghua Technology. The \"Demonstration Project on the Utilization of Coal at Different Grades to Produce New Chemical Materials\" carried out by Yulin Chemical of Shaanxi Coal Group is currently the largest coal chemical project under construction in the world. The project covers an area of approximately 13 square kilometers, with an estimated total investment of 125 billion yuan. As a coal conversion demonstration project with the largest coal processing capacity, the highest degree of industrial integration, the most complex technology integration, and a supply chain that is closest to the end market, this project represents, to a certain extent, the highest level of development in the coal chemical industry. It will have a profound impact on the further development and direction of China’s coal chemical industry, as well as determine the extent to which China’s coal chemical supply chain will be expanded in the future. The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 is further divided into two stages; the first stage involves a project to produce 1.8 million tons per year of ethylene glycol, with completion and commissioning to take place by the end of June 2021 ; The second phase is a 2 million tons per year olefins plant, which includes 5.6 million tons per year of methanol production, 2 million tons per year of olefins production from methanol, as well as downstream processing facilities for polyethylene, polypropylene, butadiene, acrylic acid, and their esters. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023. The second phase of the project involves coal pyrolysis and advanced processing of coal tar, including 15 million tons per year of medium- and low-temperature pyrolysis, 2.4 million tons per year of coal tar hydrogenation, 1.16 million tons per year of reforming/aromatics combined units, 1.8 million tons per year of PTA, 300,000 tons per year of styrene, 180,000 tons per year of bisphenol A, as well as downstream processing facilities for polystyrene, polycarbonates, polyesters, etc. The project is scheduled to be ready for construction by the end of 2020, and to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2025.
