China’s second nylon industry base! Restart of Xuyang Group’s Adipic Acid Plants Author/Source: Petrochemical Forum Date: 2021-05-19 Clicks: 8 After Lines A and B of Xuyang Group’s 2×70,000 tons/year adipic acid plants successfully produced high-quality product on March 26 and April 22 of this year respectively, the plant’s operating capacity increased to 100% on May 1, enabling full operation of both lines with a daily output of over 400 tons of adipic acid. It is reported that with a view to achieving comprehensive and systematic improvement, Xuyang Group has formulated an overall plan for the development of the Yuncheng campus over the next five years and beyond. As an important direction outlined in the plan, industrial development will be based on adipic acid, with the aim of gradually establishing a complete industrial chain that includes adipic acid, hexamethylenediamine, nylon 66, engineering plastics made from nylon 66, nylon 66 fibers, and nylon 66 cord. At present, Ruiyang Group has brought in a central state-owned enterprise as a strategic partner to carry out comprehensive cooperation using adiponitrile produced through its unique domestic technology. The plan is to jointly establish a plant with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of adipamide, 600,000 tons of nylon 66, 60,000 tons of PBAT, along with related supporting facilities. Upon completion of the project, the Yuncheng industrial park will become China’s second nylon production base, further enhancing the company’s profitability and overall competitiveness while making a positive contribution to the high-quality development of the local economy. Adipic acid, as an important chemical raw material, is widely used in the production of nylon 66, engineering plastics, and biodegradable plastic PBAT. It has also received a lot of attention recently due to PBAT. In recent years, the demand for nylon engineering plastics in our country has grown rapidly, and there are great prospects for the future development of high-grade nylon engineering plastics. However, due to a shortage of domestic supply of nylon 66, reliance on imported nylon 66 pellets is necessary to meet market demands, which severely restricts the development of the nylon engineering plastics industry. It is expected that by 2022, China’s nylon 66 production capacity will reach 780,000 tons per year. The adipic acid plant, which was operating at full capacity on both lines this time, had been shut down since 2018. Faced with challenges such as long periods of equipment idleness, high staff turnover, aging pipeline and equipment, and insufficient spare parts, the Xuyang team took over and implemented scientific scheduling and organization. By making full use of Xuyang Group’s capabilities in planning, designing, constructing, and operating coal and coke chemical industries, as well as its range of proprietary technologies, patented technologies, and achievements in safety, environmental protection, automation, informatization, digitalization, and intelligence, they managed to get both Line A and Line B of the adipic acid production facility up and running successfully on the first attempt, with the facility reaching a 100% load rate promptly. To date, following its entry into six companies in the Shandong Hongye Chemical sector, which were under bankruptcy reorganization and managed on a trusteeship basis, in July 2019 – and the completion of those acquisitions in December 2020 – Rixin Group has now also succeeded in ensuring that all 32 production units in the Dongming and Yuncheng industrial parks are operating at full capacity. This has enabled maximum utilization of the equipment and improved its efficiency, facilitated comprehensive use of resources, and enhanced economic benefits.
